Matrix reasoning tips (how to solve faster)
Practical, no-fluff guidance designed for repeatable improvement.
Matrix items usually boil down to a small set of rule families:
- Count rules: 1→2→3 shapes across a row; add/subtract counts.
- Transform rules: rotate, flip, or shift a shape each step.
- Overlay rules: combine left+middle to form right (union/overlap).
- Alternation: filled/outline/filled; dark/light; big/small toggles.
Method: Write 2 candidate rules. Test each against every row and column. The wrong rule usually fails in the middle row.
Start with Easy Set 1, then move to Medium 1.
